How to train legal personnel in legal research


This is a one day workshop conducted by Natalie Wieland of Bliss Consulting.

The workshop is designed for those responsible for training lawyers, and other legal personnel such as articled clerks, in legal research. The course will take participants through training generally, then discuss what is unique to training legal personnel.

Following this discussion, participants will develop a training course together, draft a manual, and then present the course. This will provide all participants with a methodology for future training sessions

Course outline

9:00am - 9:30am : Introduction to the workshop
9:30am - 10:15am : Overview of training generally together with discussion of what is unique when training legal personnel.
10:15am - 10:30am : Morning Tea ( provided)
10:30am - 11:30am : How to prepare a current and relevant training session
11:30am - 11:40am : Break
11:40am - 1:00pm : How to write an effective manual ( this will include developing a template to take with you)
1:00pm - 2:00pm : Lunch
2:00pm - 2:45pm : How to get people to attend your courses
2:45pm - 3:30pm : How to present a course
3:30pm - 3:40pm : Afternoon Tea ( provided)
3:40pm - 4:30pm : General hints and tips regarding training together with an opportunity to discuss future strategy.
